Careers

Thirty-seven of us
are technical.

Out of 49. AIREI is 37 technical staff and four in sales and marketing — the split in its own company profile. The work is done on running plant, for owners who will ask you to prove things.

Open roles

Six, and we did not
invent any of them.

The six vacancies AIREI currently lists on its own careers page, each with the requirement floor from AIREI’s own wording. Every link opens an email with the role already in the subject line.

Four people seen from directly above around a work table, heads together over a disassembled round sensor housing, a laptop, coiled cable and printed diagrams. Their faces are not visible.

What you would be building

Cameras, sensors and actuators bolted onto plant that was never designed for them.

Ask before you spend an evening on a cover letter. The six are read from AIREI’s live careers page, last modified in early 2024 — a role list can go stale without anyone taking it down. Each role above is summarised in one line from AIREI’s longer description; the full text is on their current careers page, and where the two disagree, theirs governs.

AIREI’s current site sends all six “Submit Application” buttons to one shared form that does not record which job. These links carry the role in the subject line instead.

Three offices, four departments, forty-nine people — and the mills themselves. Most of the thinking happens at a desk like this, then gets tested on plant.

The work

Nothing here is
a greenfield build.

AIREI’s work is retrofit: sensors, vision and actuators added to plant that is decades old and already running. That constraint shapes every job here.

Two pairs of hands at a control panel, one pointing at a row of indicator lamps while the other rests on the desk edge, the dark room lit by the panel.

Most days

A sensor that reads wrong in the rain, a network that drops at 3am, and a mill manager who does not trust the number yet.

You cannot turn the mill off

On the Minsawi retrofit the team installed while the mill kept running, bar a seven-hour window on Sundays, so production was not held up. That is the founder’s own account, given to The Edge Malaysia.

It reaches us as an undated press clipping reproduced in AIREI’s company profile; the original article has not been recovered online.

Commissioning windows are short and immovable, a mistake costs somebody else’s production, and “we will fix it in the next deploy” is not available. If you have only shipped software that could be rolled back, this is a different discipline.

Where the work happens

Three offices — the Cyberjaya headquarters, a regional office in Ipoh, and AIREI India in Coimbatore — plus the mills themselves. The named deployment we can evidence is at Kuala Kangsar in Perak.

Offices from the AIREI company profile. Base location and travel per role are not published — a fair first question to ask us.

Who you would be joining

Forty-nine people across four departments, three quarters of them technical. A small company doing work that gets covered in the national press, which cuts both ways: the surface area you can own is unusually large, and there is nobody else to hand a problem to.

Counts from the department tiles in AIREI’s company profile; they carry no “as of” date and do not fully reconcile with the org chart in the same document. The company page sets out that discrepancy.

You commission around production

A retrofit goes in while the plant keeps running. That is the schedule you would be working to.

The awkward question

You would be automating
other people’s jobs.

What the founder has said publicly about it, in his own words.

A worker’s hands soldering a small circuit board at a cluttered electronics bench, a magnifier arm and multimeter beside them under warm task light. No face is visible.

Who you would be standing with

The people whose jobs this touches are the ones who have to be taught it, by you, on their own ground.

For those guys who are no longer working, we are telling them to do other things, like taking up training to learn welding skills.

The roles being removed are the repetitive ones — the operator who opens and closes a door to move fruit onto a conveyor. The roles being added are the engineers who maintain and improve the system. Take a job here and you are on the second side of that trade, and the people on the first side are real.

Same provenance as above: an undated press clipping reproduced in AIREI’s company profile, attributed there to The Edge Malaysia.

A dusty pickup with a roof rack of conduit parked on a red-earth estate track at first light, its tailgate down with a coil of cable and a hard hat on it.

The other side of the trade

Welding, maintenance, a tablet instead of a lever. Retraining is the founder’s stated answer.

Applying

One address, and your
role in the subject line.

Send a CV to info@airei.com.my with the role in the subject line. AIREI publishes no dedicated recruitment address, so applications go to the general company address.

What you would be handed

A running mill, a screen full of its numbers, and an owner who wants to know why he should believe them.

Unsure whether a role is still open? Ask that first, in one line, before writing anything longer.

If your question is technical rather than an application — the stack, what commissioning actually looks like, whether a retrofit engineer travels — the engineer contact route reaches someone who can answer it. Nobody will treat it as a sales lead.
